Choosing Your Palm Springs Kitchen Backsplash

Choosing the kitchen backsplash is usually last on our clients mind after cabinenets and countertops but this important decorative feature adds a lot of personality. In Palm Springs, we’re always adding color and our unique twist to design. That said, there are so many choices. We’ve make the process easier, by providing you with some guidelines. Consider these points before you make your selection:

Match colors, and mix materials.

Everyone has a tough time deciding between tiles. I highly recommend living with them for a while. Feel free to order samples but a simple way to give your mind an idea of your vision is to put it into place. Simply, tape color or samples to the walls. Be sure to notice the intensity the color expresses throughout the day as the natural light changes. While you should let your creative genius flow, it’s recommended to choose one main color and a couple of accent colors to use throughout the kitchen, including the backsplash.

Add some extra spice to your counters

Invest in this high-impact zone. Consider all of the visual attention this space will attract. From taking a photo of your cutting board to share what you’re cooking to viewing your final cooking masterpiece you’ll want something fun! Take advantage of this opportunity to share your home’s personality. “Consider a neutral field tile for the rest of the kitchen, then bring in a funky glass tile to create a showy centerpiece above the stove.” HGTV

Durability is important

Be sure to ask about wear and tear. After cooking pasta dinner, tomato sauce is usually splattered somewhere. We don’t often think about the long-term impact of food and dishes but simple aging can impact the appearance. Consider how easy it would be to clean the tile, will you require a separate brush? If you don’t want to settle let us know and we’re happy to apply the best sealing methods.

Ask if the tile you want is in stock. With the impact of the Coronavirus on shipping and rising inflation, the economy can determine the amount of tile companies are willing to stock.

Don’t forget about trim pieces. Ask about important components and plan accordingly. Certain tiles like the beveled need a corner round trim piece rather than a bullnose. Decorative mouldings should also be taken into consideration. We’re happy to help throughout the design process to coordinate glazes and thickness of tiles to limit discrepincies.
